Fruit bat Christmas card

Fruit bat Christmas card

Fruit bats play an important role in ecosystems as seed dispersers. They mostly poop when they are flying (understandably...) and as they defecate into the wind, they spread seeds far and wide that help forests regrow after they have been cleared.

The Rodrigues fruit bat is endangered because deforestation has limited its range on the small island off the coast of Madagascar - but with the population on the rise, their story is a positive one.
