Harvest mouse Christmas card
The UK’s tiniest rodents can be found prancing through wheat fields, dense vegetation, and, on one special day of the year, carrying stars to the tops of Christmas trees.
They are mostly found in England and south Yorkshire, but their population has declined in the past few decades and they are now rare. Threats such as combine harvesters, stubble burning and the use of pesticides on farmland are probably impacting numbers.
The Mammal Society is calling on citizens to help them complete the Harvest Mouse Project – their biggest ever harvest mouse survey, designed to help us garner a better understanding of the species’ status.
