This stunning big cat has been extinct in the UK for about a thousand years and is a fascinating example of a species that could be reintroduced to its historic range in the near future. Following successful reintroductions in other European countries, conservationists are looking for the right sites to bring the elusive big cat back to the UK.
It is wonderful to see plans to rewild our ecosystems coming to fruition. These projects will help us transition to living alongside the species with which we should be sharing our ecosystems, and in time, should help us reconnect with nature and kickstart ecological processes that have been absent for centuries.
