Brown-lipped snail Christmas card

Brown-lipped snail Christmas card

Snails! Do you know why they’re important? Because they deliver Christmas presents to children everywhere. Just kidding; that’s badgers. They’re important because of their place in the food chain – slugs and snails, like this brown-lipped snail, provide food for birds, mammals, insects and slow worms.

Not killing snails is not only important for the sake of the molluscs themselves, but garden birds and mammals, too. The poison from slug pellets can can kill the hedgehogs feasting on our slimy friends. If you think you have too many slugs and snails eating your plants, why not consider taking some hedgehog-friendly measures to entice these spiny pest controllers into the space?
